Coolest Coffee Shops for Productivity
Sometimes a change of scenery is all you need to get some work done – but a little caffeine can go a long way too. Whether you’re studying or working remotely, these coffee shops are great for keeping your energy alive!
Tenfold Coffee Company
Pack up your laptop and head over to Tenfold on Aurora Street for a seriously strong brew. These aren’t the coffees you would find at a chain. These beans come from all around the world from places like Peru, Brazil, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Guatemala. They are sourced from farmers who Tenfold is proud to have developed relationships with, and each roast has its own distinct flavor profile.
As for the location itself, the tall ceilings, high windows, vibrant greenery, and wide-open spaces give this spot a refreshing appeal when it comes time to hunker down and get some work done.
If you can’t make it out of the house but still want to enjoy a delicious brew, Tenfold might be able to help. It offers a “Café Quality Coffee at Home” class every Saturday at 9 AM to teach coffee lovers the art of brewing. Registration is required.
Tenfold is open from 7 AM – 6 PM every day.

Coffee and barbecue seem like an unlikely combination, but food truck and mobile caterer Coffee-Q exemplifies why it works. Choose from a wide array of caffeinated beverages and tasty lemonades. The food truck also serves tacos, quesadillas, sandwiches, nachos, breakfast bowls, and more. Once you try the pretzel brisket sandwich, you’ll definitely want to tell your friends about it!
This little eatery has been stationed at the likes of Little Woodrow’s and other restaurants in the area. Unless you book the business for your own event, you might have to do a little digging to find out where they’ll be next. Call to find out!
Bluestone Lane
Brunch stop Bluestone Lane is centrally located on West 19th Street in Houston Heights, making it an awesome spot for residents who need a jolt to focus. The expansive indoor seating, coastal aesthetics, lush greenery, and high ceilings bring an energy to the location that makes it easy to get work done. Outdoor seating is also available!
Order mouthwatering toasts, burritos, bowls, pancakes, banana bread, and other tasty plates. Due to its Australian influences, Bluestone Lane also sells a variety of drinks that are hard to find anywhere else. Try the hot Milo for a take on a malted Australian treat!
Boomtown Coffee Co.
Situated on West 19th Street, Boomtown Coffee Co. serves up classic coffees, unique concoctions, and fabulous lattes. It’s known for flavorful favorites like the Shakarato, the New Orleans-style Crüd, and the Johnny Cash, each of which make great drinks to reward yourself with after a day of productivity!
The coffee shop offers some great eats too. Items on the menu include tacos, toasts, and plates. Have special dietary needs? Boomtown is especially popular among diners who prefer vegetarian or gluten-free options.
The atmosphere on-site is best described as “sunny.” Uplifting artwork, creative food and drinks, and plenty of seating (including outdoors) make it a wonderful place to go to lift your spirits and accomplish tasks.
Want to keep the pajama bottoms on and brew your own coffee from home? No problem. You can order roasted whole bean coffees and coffee-making equipment from Boomtown Coffee Company’s website.

If you’ve got a hard day of studying ahead of you and you’re not sure where to go to focus, break out the books and head on over to Kraftsmen Bakery located at 611 West 22nd Street. The bakery sells fresh hand-crafted pastries and breads that have delighted residents and visitors of Houston Heights since 2008. The key to Kraftsmen Bakery’s success is that in order to maintain flavor, it only uses the finest unbleached and unbromated flours.
Fuel your session with scones, bagels, sticky buns, Danishes, muffins, croissants, tea loaves, cookies, and other goodies. You can also order a full-blown meal from Kraftsmen Bakery. Leaving home early to work remotely definitely sounds more appealing when cast iron griddle cakes are involved!
Before you leave for the day after working here, consider purchasing some bread to bring home. Kraftsmen Bakery sells perfect American-style breads as well as Old World favorites like pretzel bread and challah bread.
Roast and Brew
High ceilings, an open concept, and ample seating help make Roast and Brew a comfortable place to go to crack items off your to-do list. Photo Credit: Roast and Brew
Roast and Brew on West 19th Street packs a punch with its vast array of selections. The eatery not only offers visitors a caffeine buzz and tasty bites to ward off peckishness but beer and wine as well. Customers can also choose from loose leaf teas, champagnes, and other options, making Roast and Brew a truly multi-purpose location.
The business supports shopping local, a fact that is evident in its sourcing practices. Coffee beans are purchased locally through family-owned roaster Geva Coffee. In addition, much of the craft beer on the menu comes from area breweries. Drink specials are offered from 2 PM – 5 PM – just something to keep in mind as you’re planning out your work day or perhaps organizing an afternoon study group.
In terms of food, diners can expect all-day breakfast, Greek specialties, salads, pastas, hamburgers, and other favorites. For dessert, bite into baklava or some European chocolates. This is a European café, after all – might as well take advantage! All meals are made to order, so you can trust that your chef is cooking up something fresh.
Night owls, take note: This might just become your “spot” for late-night projects since Roast and Brew is open every night until midnight!
